Church Issues

Prophetess Juanita Bynum Files for Divorce

It is one thing to hear about divorces amongst "regular couples", and it is a different story entirely when the issue of divorce lies amongst the people who are supposed to be exemplar's in the body of Christ. Yes, we are all humans, and no being is above mistakes. At the same time we ought to realize that when we are called to serve, irrespective of the position, or class, the best is expected of us.
This "best" becomes utterly necessary when we pose as spiritual leaders, answering to God.

Well-known evangelist, Juanita Bynum, earlier this month filed for divorce after five years of marriage to Bishop Thomas W. Weeks III, in a "million-dollar" wedding.
Juanita Bynum was allegedly assaulted by her husband in an Atlanta parking lot. Apparently, they had met at the Renaissance Concourse Hotel to discuss a possible reconciliation, but it took a different turn when they got into an argument. Weeks walked out into the parking lot area, turned back around, and started to choke her.
As he choked her, he pushed her down to the ground, and started to kick, and stomp on her. She was rescued by an eyewitness.
She is said to be recovering.

Her wedding featured a party of 80 people, friends, and family, 1000 guests, a 12-piece orchestra, and a 7.76 carat diamond ring. Her platinum-colored satin gown was embroidered with Swarovski crystals on the bodice, hem, and 25-foot train.

Randy and Paula White Announce Divorce

This woman I love to bits!!! So, it's a mixture of shock/anger/pain for me right now. I mean, they seemed utterly perfect together. What possibly could have gone wrong? Where? Who? How? Why?.....What is going on within the body of Christ. First, it was Juanita Bynum, and now Paula White...as in Paula White? I hold these people in high esteem. Paula is one of my best preachers. Yeah, I love her like that. I guess this just shows that God is no respecter of persons. He cannot be mocked. Like the bible says in Psalm 127:1, except the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain that build it; or in Ecclesiastes 9:11, where it says that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong,......but time, and chance happen to them all.

What do I say about a Bishop that turns his wife into a punching bag? What could she have said/done to warrant that kind of treatment? What sort of anger could have come over him?

To what do we owe the misuse of authority? Power, and money, or fame, and popularity? When the church becomes an arena for self promotion, rather than "God promotion", everything is bound to go wrong. When the couple both pastor separate churches, competition is bound to set in. There are so many issues to address here, and these issues need to be addressed by the church. I agree, it is seemingly complicated, but the good thing is, it is possible.

Paula, and Randy White are the founders, and co-pastors of Without Walls International Church, Tampa, Florida. They have been married for nearly 18 years, and they both have kids from previous marriages, but none together.
